Ep 143 : building a powerful business through a purpose driveN tribe - leah emmott

Leah Emmott is a truly remarkable young entrepreneur. As the founder of Inner Fire, an eco-friendly yoga clothing company based out of Vancouver, BC, Leah has managed to build a remarkable tribe of devoted followers of her brand called “The Luminaries”.

We often read about building tribes or fan bases for our brands, and in this show, you will hear an incredible story from humble beginnings that have led to a powerful business driven by a tribe of followers for Inner Fire. Leah saw the apparel industry getting overrun by the throwaway culture of fast fashion and unfair labor practices and knew there had to be another way.

Today Inner Fire is a company that creates yoga apparel and lifestyle products for the urban yogi and in doing so has created an amazing base of Luminaries that gives us a true model for building a fan based for our company.

Here’s what we spoke to Leah about in this inspiring interview:
  • When people ask Leah what she does what does Leah like to say?
  • The backstory to how My Inner Fire started?
  • Why the name 'Inner Fire'?
  • How slogans started the creative process- the lightning rod of creation
  • The moment Leah knew she had a brand?
  • What fears did Leah face when starting out?
  • What are Luminaries for Leah?
  • How do the Luminaries work? Benefits for the brand having the Luminaries?
  • It’s an eco-friendly range, what does that mean?
  • The power of Purpose for the brand and the Tribe.
  • Do you have creative ritual or routine?
  • Journaling for design ideas, doodles?
  • Where does Leah take influences from?
  • What are the biggest lessons from the Inner Fire journey so far?
  • Tell your why.... why?
  • Leah’s biggest regret, if any?
  • If you were starting out what would you do differently?
  • How does Leah handle rejection at festivals etc when people come up and turn up their nose?
  • What's the dream for the future of Inner Fire?

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967
