Ep 139 : Get out of your own way, quit the excuses and create the life you want - brant garvey

Quit the Excuses, Get it Done, Make it Happen - It's Your Life!

Brant Garvey an Australian Paralympian and who holds the world record as an above the knee amputee in the World Ironman Triathlon. This is a show that makes you consider the excuses we feed to ourselves that hold us back from being the best we can be in and out of work.  Brant takes the lessons he has learnt in the pursuit of excellence and turns them into honest, meaningful, straight up and valuable lessons.

He is currently preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and we cover what happens when the NoXcuses guy starts making excuses to himself? Brant is a good guy with big aspirations, and this is an episode that will have you feeling good about your day and your life.

Here’s what we cover with Brant in this show.

  • How does Brant reply to people who ask "what do you do?"
  • The moment when he understood he only had one leg
  • Born with one leg, running was something Brant always considered impossible. He’d make excuses and tell himself “above-knee amputees can’t run”. What changed all that?
  • Diagnosed with three types of cancer at the age of fourteen his sister has inspired Brant to greatness - how?
  • Is having a defined target part of his desire for achievement?
  • When the NoXcuses guy is making excuses, what does he do?  #100daysnodaysoff
  • What’s the actual psychology behind making excuses?
  • Why as a culture do we tend to encourage or accept excuses?
  • When we challenge people who are obviously making excuses and call them on it, can it be confronting?
  • Legs are expensive ….$20k each
  • Attaching the leg / What keeps it on?
  • Brant wore shorts as much as he could as a psychological way of having the courage to try and not hide his leg?
  • What has been the most challenging thing he has had to face in his life?
  • What's his mental approach to things that don’t go his way?
  • What is Brant’s greatest fear?
  • What's the next goal in discomfort?

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967
